A lot of Kenya but also a lot of love -for running and not only- at Gensan Giulietta & Romeo Half Marathon

(Verona) – Always the usual Gensan Giulietta & Romeo Half Marathon, perfect organization and full of people, smiles, champions, love and hearts in love with sport, racing and more. Three races in a single event, almost 10 thousand people at the start, for this classic in its tenth edition organized by Veronamarathon Eventi in collaboration with the City of Verona. Everyone was able to participate, from professional champions to children in stroller, from 21 to 5 kilometers.

THE DUEL – The rain has not arrived, little wind on the path, perfect temperature to wear a pair of running shoes and show up at the start. The asphalt and the cobblestones just a bit slippery in some points and some curves on the path, but the show has not been affected. African athletes from the highlands of Kenya were the undisputed masters of the race and as announced first four places in the standings. The same applies to the women’s race for the success of a Kenyan athlete. Great race: the ride and the shoulder-to-shoulder duel between Peter Kwemoi Ndorobo and Ishmale Chelanga Kalaledurante all 21km held with no breath all those who followed the race both live on the giant screen in the stands on arrival in Piazza Bra, both those who were following the live-streaming from anywhere in the world. A challenge that ended with a long sprint, a sprint that lasted several hundred meters around the Arena to end on the Liston, the “living room of Verona”, with Ndorobo ahead of a few meters that saw him cross the finish line first in 1h01’01 “thus leaving behind for only two seconds (1h01’03”) Kalale (Atl. Casone Noceto). The record for the race did not arrive, unattainable today 1h00’24 “signed last year by Edwin Koech, but thrills and emotions were abundant:” With the dry asphalt I could have run at least half a minute faster, but I am however satisfied. I will try again to beat my personal record in some other half marathon in the coming weeks” said the winner Ndorobo. Third step of the podium today for Reuben Kiprop Kerio slightly detached in 1h02’58 “, fourth Rodgers Maiyo in 1h03’13”.

VIVA L’ITALIA – the first Italian is Francesco Bona (Cs Aeronautica) in 1h04’43 “, while he confirms himself an athlete with exceptional qualities on the road as well as in the mountains where he is an absolute leader; from “Trentino” Cesare Maestri (Atl. Bergamasche Leffe) who finished seventh overall in 1h04’48 “shredding his personal record set here in Verona a year ago on the occasion of his debut on 21km where he made 1h05’54”.

WOMEN – Female race was dominated from the beginning from the Kenyan Vivian Kiplagat Jerono who crossed the line in 1h11’59 “, far from her personal record of 1h09’05” but today, as said between slippery asphalt, racing alone and at quiet rhythms until the 15th kilometer did not allow her to do better. “That’s okay, I did my best,” said Jerono at the finish line. “Now I’m going to finalize the Milan Marathon, where I participated last year, coming in 2h28 ‘and where I hope to do even better”.

INCERTI AND THE OTHERS – There was a lot of expectation for the “azzurra” already European marathon champion Anna Incerti (Gs Fiamme Azzurre) who placed second, as in 2014, in a modest, for her, 1h14’01 “: “I’m certainly not satisfied – Anna says after the race – But today I really was not worth more. These were difficult days between flu and back pain that affected me a lot in the last period. As I said this was a test, maybe I should not have competed and if I did it is only for the friendship and respect for the organizers of this wonderful race. Now I know where I have to ‘start’ for the next intense period of training that will take me to do a marathon in April. ” Third, fourth and fifth position to a trio that we have already learned to know on the streets of Verona last autumn at the Agsm Veronamarathon. On the occasion came second, third and fourth. Today the third place was for the Sardinian Claudia Pinna (Cus Cagliari) able to run in 1h14’53 “, fourth position for Teresa Montrone (Alteratletica Locorotondo) in 1h15’42” and fifth place for Anna Spagnoli (Edera Atl. Forlì) in 1h17’02 “.
