VERONA – Few days missing for the race, the official list of top runners of Gensan Giulietta & Romeo Half Marathon for Sunday, February 17th, 2019 it is almost ready.
MEN RACE – Bib number 1 for the winner of 2018 Peter Kwemoi Ndorobo who won in 1h01’01 “after a race next to Ishmale Chelanga Kalale and a great final sprint. This time he is back with the goal of making an encore but also to beat the record of 1h00’24” which belongs to Edwin Koech in 2017. With bib number 2 the Italian athlete Lorenzo Dini (Gs Fiamme Gialle) junior European vice-champion in 2013 in 10000 meters. Lorenzo, who is 24 year-old has a personal record on the half-distance of 64’20 done in Agropoli in 2017 where he finished 2nd in the Italian Half-marathon Championship. With his brother Samuele he followed the tradition of another pair of twins from Livorno, Andrea and Alessandro Cellai, who helped to mark a golden period for the youth middle-distance in the 80’s. Parallel route for both, with similar results for these practically identical guys: the only visible physical difference is a birthmark on Lorenzo’s right arm. Dini brothers started in 2004 with Bruno Gabbi, but since 2009 Saverio Marconi has trained them. Lorenzo won the silver medal over 10,000 meters at the Junior European Championships of Rieti in 2013 and the team bronze medal at the cross continental event, then in 2015 he had an individual podium, and a team gold medal in 2016. At his debut in half marathon he placed second in Italian championships of 2017 with 1h04: 20. Once he finished high school, in 2014 he was enrolled in “Fiamme Gialle”, coming from Livorno Athletics. From January 2018 he trained at Castelporziano with Vittorio Di Saverio, passing in November under the technical guidance of Stefano Baldini in Rubiera.
From Germany Amanal Petros, who will run with the bib number 3 and Tom Gröschel with the 4. Petros was silver medal at the European Championships under 23 in the 10000 meters, distance where he has a personal record of 28’29″78 on the track and even 28’49″on the road. He arrived in 4th place at the European Championships in Chia Laguna in 2016. He has never raced a half marathon; Gensan Giulietta & Romeo Half Marathon will be the venue of his debut. Tom Gröschel has a personal best in half marathon of 1h04’52 ” winning the half marathon of Cologne and 2h15’20″in marathon, done in April 2018 in Dusseldorf where he arrived in third place.
Bib number 6 is for the debutant Kenyan Ronoh Patrick Kibet training partner of Kalale, who arrived 2nd last year. Bib number 7 for another Kenyan, also on the distance debut. He is Karbolo Tatiyia companion of Peter Kwemoi Ndorobo.
Bib number 8 for the 35 years old Francesco Bona (Aeronautics) from Biella who arrived 6th last year at Giulietta & Romeo Half Marathon with 1h04’43 “. Alessandro Giacobazzi will have the bib number n. 9. He won, at a very young age in 2017, the Turin Marathon in 2h15’25 “while in half marathon he has a staff of 1h04’52” made exactly one year ago in Barcelona. In Verona in February 2017 he placed 6th in 1h05’35 “. Bib number 11 to another Kenyan athlete, Joel Kipkenei Melli. Statistics show a personal record of 21.097km in 1h03’42 “made in Ras Al Khaimah in 2013 and a 6th place in the half marathon of Piacenza in 2017 in 1h04’42”.
WOMEN RACE – Bib number F1 for the Italian athlete Valeria Straneo who we have already presented with a dedicated interview a few days ago. The athlete from Alessandria, world and European vice-champion in marathon, has already competed and won here in Verona. It was in 2014 and on the occasion she won the race and the Italian half marathon title that year stopping the clock in 1h09’45 “. More than welcome her return, for Valeria will be a step to prepare and stand out in an international marathon in April.
Bib number F2 for Kenyan Linah Cheruto who ran her best half marathon in Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic in 2015 in 1h10’22 “, she won a half marathon in Madrid and several important podiums. Bib number F3 for the Italian Laila Soufyane, she was born in Morocco and moved to Italy with her family in 1987, she soon approached to athletics: a passion born thanks to her brother El Fadil who helped her to integrate in the town of Colleferro, in the province of Rome. In November 2015 she ran the Valencia Marathon in 2h32’39’’, at her third distance experience, and in 2016 she won the world military title at the Turin Marathon. She gave birth Malika in October 2017. Her personal best is 1h12’43” made in Ostia in 2015, while at Gensan Giulietta & Romeo Half Marathon was placed 5th in 1h13’41” in 2014. Bib number F4 for the Sara Galimberti who won Verona Cangrande Half Marathon in 2016 while having a personal best of 1h13’42” done at “Stramilano” in 2015. Second place in 2h39’16” in Reggio Emilia’s marathon in December 2016. Ten years ago, in 2009, she was19 year old, she was “only” a model with the title of Miss Lombardy and an experience in Miss Italy, then the transition to athletics races with many satisfactions. Bib number F5 for the German athlete Heim Thea who, in 2017, made 1h15’13 “in Hannover and won the half marathon of Riva del Garda in November 2018 in 1h16’41”.
